When Jeb says this to Max, my first reaction was the same as Max's. I didn't buy one bit of it. But shortly after, I got to thinking that this is probably what the author wanted me to think. And since he wanted me to think max wasn't going to save the world, that means she probably will. Knowing that something Jeb has said might come true, it opens up the possibility that everything he says may be true, making what Max and the flocks lives have been about completely insignificant.
